Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap isn't an extraordinary film

Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap isn’t an extraordinary film but it is a whole-hearted tribute to the magnetic and charismatic personality and superstar that is Amitabh Bachchan. He is in super-duper form and makes the film work!

Amitabh plays Viju, a reformed gangster who is young at heart. He returns to Mumbai from Paris and wants to relive the glory days of gangsters. He starts working with Makrand Deshpande’s gang and Prakash Raj. He is paired with Hema Malini. Prakash Raj is the villain out to get A.C.P. Karan Malhotra, played by Sonu Sood. Sonal Chauhan and Charmee Kaur play friends and Sonal is paired with Sonu. Raveena Tandon plays Charmee’s adorable mother.

There isn’t much of a story; it unwinds with the film through interesting twists and turns. The movie is eminently watchable and keeps one’s interest alive. There isn’t one cheap dialogue in the movie and it is funny. The humour is situational and dialogue-based. Obviously, Amitabh has the best punch-lines and the unmatched superstar takes every scene, every dialogue to another level. The film is all about hero-giri with one guy beating up ten others. The music is very good and the title track is a great theme song. The background score enhances the narrative. Thankfully, the film moves at a decent pace and is not very long. It is a treat for Amitabh Bachchan’s fans. The film tries to capture the essence of his stardom and is a genuine tribute to him.

There are some flaws such as Amitabh meeting a gangster-turned-preacher friend but what transpires between them is not very clear. Sometimes, the movie jumps from one scene to another.

Only Amitabh Bachchan could have pulled off the role. His screen presence and panache are intact and he commands attention. Anybody else wearing those garish clothes would have looked like a joker but it is remarkable how Mr. Bachchan carries it all off and looks impeccably stylish. His energy and enthusiasm is truly amazing! Hema Malini and Big B make an adorable pair and recreate the magic of Baghban. Their scenes are sweet. It is great to see Sonu Sood in the same frame as Amitabh Bachchan because the actor bears an uncanny resemblance to the star. Sonu holds his own opposite the icon and perfectly portrays a tough-as-nails cop. Sonal Chauhan returns to the screen after three years (she was last seen in Jannat in 2008) and is decent. She looks pretty too. Charmee Kaur could have dressed better for her plump frame but has a child-like quality and a very endearing presence. She is quite confident in her scenes with Bachchan. Hema Malini is as graceful and beautiful as ever. Prakash Raj is a pro at playing villains by now and he doesn’t disappoint this time either. Like in Wanted, his character in this film also has a crazy streak. Makrand Deshpande is very entertaining and has a decent role in a Bollywood film after quite a while. Raveena Tandon looks ravishing and happily plays someone in awe of and crazy about Viju. She makes a pleasant comeback and her track is funny as well.
